On of the best things about Ayurveda is the fact that remedies for what ails you is in the form of massage, nourishing oils everywhere, delicious yet healing spice laden foods, and the most amazing tea you ever want to taste.  Of course there is much more to it than these methods but, truly, Ayurveda is one of my favorite modes of genuine healing because the majority of the remedies are calming yet energizing, and really effective yet supremely delicious.  Plus, let’s not forget the MAJOR benefits from yoga on stress relief, its contribution to healing chronic diseases, not to mention helping create a rockin’ bod!  They knew the benefits of proper breathing centuries before people started sweating it out in Hot Yoga studios all across the world.  That’s all part of Ayurveda.

So let’s get back to the tea.  Did you know different spices and herbs have different effects on the body?  Did you know those same effects may be different on each person?  Each person, after all, has a different constitution or dosha. {Find out your dosha in our simple quiz What’s Your Dosha?} Each dosha also has a season, and, if you are eating intuitively and seasonally, you might find yourself craving certain tastes more at certain times of the year.  For example, right now, when the weather is cool, I find myself not able to get enough cumin, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper.  In the summer, conversely, I can’t get enough tarragon, rosemary, or basil.  The former are all warming spices, the latter are all cooling herbs.  I do follow a mostly raw vegan diet naturally in the summer whereas in the winter I want soups and stews so that is an example of how, in the fall and winter, when Vata, and sometimes Kapha are exaggerated, my doshas stay fairly balanced.

I am a Vata and lean towards a Vata imbalance when I stay up too late, am too lazy to do my yoga, or am pregnant (pregnancy is a Vata time) so I need to take extra care to eat warming, grounding spices, eat little meat, use ghee (and oh is there ever a post coming about that!), and stay on a schedule.  Starting my day with ginger and lemon in hot water helps balance my Vata as the ginger is warming.  Combining it with cardamom, cinnamon and sometimes licorice or fennel also is a good way to stay centered but sometimes, being pregnant I get lazy.  I rely on my steady stream of Vata balancing tea from Ayurveda Pura to help me get the tastes I need for that balance.

Sometimes though, even a predominantly Vata gal gets a little too fiery and my Pitta acts up; or the damp whether brings on sluggish digestion and the desire to sleep too much which aggravates my Kapha.  It may sound complex but you too will learn to listen to your body because I will teach you to slow down and really be in tune to what your body is telling you.  I’m also going to give you a chance to win the ultimate herbal tea set  for whatever ails you.  Call them quick fixes or pick-me-ups for those damp lazy spring days, dry autumn or crispy winter days, and hot summer days when you think you will melt into the sidewalk.

Do you believe tea can have a positive effect on your health? Why or why not?

Yes, sure. I drink ginger tea everyday because of the flavor and their termogenics effects. And I have a collection of other teas here that I replaced the old coffee cup I used to drink everyday.

I’m not sure if tea is going to help with health concerns but I do know that it can certainly relax you when feeling stressed and comforts you when you’re not feeling well.

I know herbal tea can have a positive effect on a person because after the doctors severely OD on a medicine and my new doctors said that I have only a couple of years to live a best because it is a miracle I was still alive I started drinking nothing but herbal tea and eating only healthy food and meditating more and doing stretches and now everything is reversing and I am still alive so it is working and it is baffling the doctors. Thank you for a truly awesome giveaway; Happy Holidays!

Without a doubt tea is wonderful for one’s health. I’ve used teas for years and years to help with certain health issues– insomnia, upset stomach, stress. I know teas help because I’ve seen the direct benefits.
